Corporal Jeremy Brookes from 4th Battalion The Rifles killed in Iraq!
Read this Last post for a fine Rifleman
In Basra's fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Basra's fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Basra's fields.
John McCrae(1872-1918)

I read all the obituaries of the troops killed in both Iraq and Afghanistan out of a sense of debt really.
I get the feeling that Cpl, Brookes was the sort of NCO I wish I had been bothered to be when I was in (a long time ago.)
The entry on his obituary from his CO is an indication of how well he was known within the Batallion and how highly regarded.
Old (pissed at the moment) soldier speaking, but I support you lot out there and feek for you.
